Aaao Bataeein Tumhe Haath ke Baat.

Just hearing messages on FM radio and news channels of party's claiming everything from grass is green to sky is blue due to thier struggle makes me want to make a little effort to set the record straight and also present another side of the story....

Let me quote some interesting titbits based on what i believe is factual and reported information by journals or newspapers - which will shed some light on what cards the hand plays.... (lovely, i am a poet now...:) )

It could not possibly be a lack of imagination, could it? Why is everything in India named after Nehru, Indira, Sanjay, and Rajiv? I have pondered that matter here before. In October 2005 I asked:

Why is everything in India named after the Gandhis? The huge national park in Borivali in north Mumbai is called the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Did not know that Sanjay was a great nationally renowned nature lover. If I had not known better, I would have figured that he must have been the John Muir of India.

Pretty much half the things around India are named after the Nehru-Gandhi family. What astonishes me most is when educational institutions are named after the family which does not have a single graduate degree among the whole lot of them. Not that they could not afford to go to college. No, they all attended colleges and attempted to get degrees but failed to get one.

On second thoughts, given the moribund state of the Indian educational system, perhaps naming educational institutions after the luminaries of the Nehru-Gandhi family has a certain aptness to it.

I pondered the naming of things once more in Feb 2008 and concluded that it was political advertising:

Naming things is easy in India. “Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal, Indira, Rajiv, and Sanjay” are the choices for the first bit, as in “Jawaharlal Nehru University,” or “Indira Gandhi International.” It won’t be too long before we have “Sonia, Priyanka, Rahul, Spotty” added to the list. (Spotty is just a place holder as I am not sure what the name of the Gandhi family dog actually is.)

I know that other nations also identify their important landmarks with the names of their historical political leaders. The US honors Lincoln, Washington, Kennedy, and so on. However, there is a great deal of diversity in their naming of things that they value. They name their scientific projects after scientists, for instance. Remember Hubble, Fermi, etc. Indeed, the Americans even named one of their space telescopes after an Indian: Chandra. I somehow doubt that would happen in India.

But no where other than in India have I noticed only one family monopolizing the naming of things. It is as if India never had any heroes until the birth of Jawaharlal Nehru and after that all the seats were taken by his progeny for eternity. I think there is a simple reason. The naming of things is a way of political advertising. An “Indira Gandhi Seva Yojna” publicly funded though it may be will ultimately drive home the message that the Gandhi family is the giver of gifts and ensure that the thumb impression of the voter lands on the Congress candidate come election time.

It is a sort of a vicious circle. First, name every institution and program with the Nehru-Gandhi name. Brand name recognition ensures that as long as the Congress has someone leading it with that brand name, it will get the millions of thumb impressions. Then if you can promote the name even more by labeling even more things with the name, you get to share some of the goodies political power provides.

It seems that one Mr Surya Prakash has also noticed this rather obscure trend and has petitioned the Election Commission and “requested him to immediately issue directions to the Union government and to all the governments in the states and direct them to remove the names of individuals, who are seen by the people as icons of specific political parties, from all government programmes and schemes funded by the exchequer and to immediately give these programmes politically neutral names.”

Remember, If nothing else changes, atleast your kids and mine may not have to face the indignity of going to a Engineering college by name of Buzo Takniki Vikas Sansthan ( - Buzo may just be the first family's pet puppy in future... or maybe a cat by name of Champakalli ??? - see point 3)

The world a victim of Terror and Dr. Singh a Victim of Sleeplessness ...zzzzzz

Count on Dr. M Singh to come up with the most amazing of comments every time. Last few days back he castigated the Indian industry for not doing more to bring in inclusiveness ( more than whom .... The UPA government whose main components COngress Party's legacy for last 40-50 years, we all know of.

Now after the arrests of the Indian doctors who allegedly plotted these new blasts in July 2007 and which thankfully didn't happen, Dr. Singh complained of sleeplessness on Indian news channel out of concern for the Doctor and after seeing the families of these Doctors in grief.

Did Doctor Singh also have a bout of sleeplessness on 7/11 train bombings at all ? Not that we have heard off.

Or did the thought that had these bombs gone off , set by these allegedly disgraceful shame-on-indian people , there would have been hundreds of casualties... did this thought cause him any sleeplessness.

No!

Was he trying to get some kind of brownie points from the muslim community through this sleeplessness episode.

Will Dr. Singh ever have the courage to address the Muslim community in India, at large not to get taken in by zealots and idiots whose whole week is spent deciding where to plant bomb ; rather than appeal to Gordon Brown to have some sympathy for us poor Indian bought to shame by certain people.

HELP HELP! Victim to Mr. Singh's War on TALENT!

After Bush declared War on Terror, where can our Indian PM be left behind. Just one small problem, instead of fighting a war on terror which our country desparately needs ( many times more than USA), he is now fighting a war on talent.

Next time you bring in the rosy statistics regarding GDP growth and GDP and india as the next superpower.. just keep in Mind that Messrs Singh and his able round table of knights may just leave that as what it has been... a rosy dream.

What .. How dare you say that ? Someone asks.

After all Mr. Singh was the one who bought in the reforms circa 91'.

Aha.... History as they say is written by the victor. We forget 91. that inflexion point in india's history, when India was in the technical sense on brink of bankruptcy and had to salvage gold to meet payments. The only door which remained open was that of reforms, there were not even blind alleys, not even mouseholes ... and lo and behold Mr. Singh took this ONLY OPEN route. And hence his foresight is praised , where he actually started to practice what more or less, the noted us economist Milton Friedman said in 1955 speifically to India . YESSIR 35 years earlier.... Howzat for foresight.

But cum to the present and the recent audicious speech by the PM where he has declared his war on talent it seems.

1. Reservations for caste and religions in government aided and pretty soon unaided institutes... no matter what the merit of person... No we will not teach a man to fish.. instead we will keep on feeding him.

Doesnt matter if our so called MCD Schools with imbecilic faculty have not taught the weaker sections any basics, or only take attendance twice a year, but we will still refer the poor chaps churned out by inefficient and shoddy state education to institutes of excellence like IIT and IIM who may be miracle workers...

As usual we will wash our hands off the whole mess.

And let the priest in villages keep shunning away the people from lower castes and ensuring they dont get a basic education... Messrs singh will solve that by giving these poor chaps seats in SRCC and Stephens.....

AS long as the solution does not get our hands dirty, its the right solution, isnt it!

2. Dire warning to the private sector to start something akin to reservations in employment as well or we will do it for you. Doesent matter that the private sector owes zilch to the government and has only been a milked cash cow through taxes ,duties, levies, and more taxes ... sans facilities.

yes i suppose we should be thankful that atleast the private sector has the permission of the gallant leaders to atleast develop the infrastructure....

3. Also saying that welfare schemes will have minorities being pampered to and the majority, read "HINDU" in most states coming second. SO this means a BPL muslim is poorer than a BPL Hindu and ditto for christan.... so do we different Gandhijis on notes for Hindus and Muslims and Christians or are we using the same currency....

4. And heres a look at the future.....(of what may be as the ghost of christmas future said.) " Share holding of companies especcially the BSE bluechips will be divided amongst minorities uptil a total of 40% of Market value of the company and then distributed amongst the poor majority whose only fault is that they are the silent majority who say chalta hai yaar.... UPA aati hai power mein to kya hoga...?

5. Future... Even if you pay for air ticket and you are majority ( read "hindu " again) please transfer that air ticket to someone non majority if your religion's quota for air travel is exceeded.

6. Majority people can only eat Rajma Chawal Once a week, watch movies only once a fortnight lest we have less seats for the minority or sc /st or ofcourse us (the politicians wink wink)

7. Those that have read regarding how Hitler with his flawed logic started with his reasoning regarding jews and which initially began with segregating them and finally they were gassed and murdered and lynched in millions...... THIS IS HOW IT BEGINS....

And god help me and make me wrong... but this is how it seems to have begun in INdia with those in power bent on dividing a country, suppressing talent, making a thousand years of casteism flow to thousand more.

TO the silent majority....

You may not be lynched or murdered in your lifetime but the dream that is India will turn into a 1945 germany lest you don't do something about it when the time comes to vote....I dont want my kid to be gassed or serve in a concentration camp because his father was part of a silent majority..... DO YOU ???????

PLANET OF THE APES--- Here and Now in India

I remember when i had watched Planet of the Apes the other day,, how one species typically rules over the other enslaving them and using them as ignorant prey or slaves or docile toys. Something similar is seen in "The time machine" when the morlocks actually enslave perhaps a superior sub-species (Apperance wise) just by their agressiveness and sheer physical force.

And then they say Truth is stranger than fiction , which is true, strangely :-) because here in india the subspecies called politicians is holding the common man who struggles and fights for a decent living as a host or prey. Slowly we become either slaves or docile toys to these apes which rule over us in the ostensible garb of democracy.

These monkeys live in 100 crore houses while people whose whole household depends on a 10 x12 shop get it sealed along with their life. They draw benefits and perks over a lakh and have salary exceeding 30-40 k but they can't bring out a single planning document in 3 years.

Moreover these monkeys are very vain.... they spend half their times renaming roads and water treatment plants and lanes and bylanes and bridges with their own names or those of their ancestory, or unborn child or favorite maids ....

Wish they spent this time on their slaves...

The slaves however get a chance to change this every 5 years generally. They get to decide which set of monkeys should rule over them., This is an interesting facet of the mistress called democracy which only visits you every 5 years.

Now what happens is monkeys get cleverer around this time and routinely bribe the slaves by feeding them chicken or alcohol or promising them some benefits like clean toilets etc. but they promise them to specific slaves only so as ensuring the slaves which have some sympathy with them decide for them. The monkeys which actually talk of more power to the slaves are laughed at or neglected because every slave find this absurd and doesn't really find anyhthing immediately good from them.

Hence worse and worse set of monkeys are ruling the slaves now.... the slaves suffer from temporary amnesia for 5 years and again this cycle begins. The slave are also too preoccupied by immediate duties and getting food foraged by them on the table to think of the future. And they have great belief in the mistress called democracy! Finally the slaves are too divided along lines of race and other things too foment a mutiny against the monkeys.

Hence continues the story of the planet of apes..... If only the slaves start thinking long term and think of themselves as a society rather than individuals perhaps, we shall be rid of the nasty monkeys...

So the next time the chance to decide the monkeys comes - please decide not on basis of chickens, alchohol, blankets or individual benefits but will the monkeys actually work for the betterment of slave society and maybe after another 1000 years allow them to live as equals ????

How to divide the country and kill merit for dummies - by a an autoratic government

Well then...

"The hits just keep on coming." as tom cruise said in his movie "A few good men" ... and sure enough the hits just keep on coming courtesy the ruling UPA government.

Already 50% of reservation is there in education for obc and sc and st and xbc's and what not, ofcourse no explanation of this percentage or magic figure is there. IS 50% of the population of India either OBC or SC or ST ? I think not., but then again 1 person 1 vote is not a criteria here ...

It is 1 votebank person 1 vote.

Has anyone tried to find out how much percentage of OBC/ SC or STs even have access to education....? Or how many of below poverty line people are non SC/ST's.... do we need to subsidize the opportunities they get because some silly chap in a village does not let them enter a temple OR because of how poor they are (which does not mean they are necessarily SC/ ST)

But this is not all

Come to Step 2
Now you initiate the religion based reservation debate.... No matter that the constution of india explicitly forbids or that the supreme courts frown upon it and has infact been held unconstitutional in an Andhra Pradesh court judgement.

All of this has no meaning for the so called secular party(S) of India....

And then there is Step 3

Hey ! Let us initiate reservation in Private sector as well. Doesn't matter if Productivity goes for a toss. Doesn't matter if you undue the last 10 years of growth of which government had at best a passive and at worst ZERO role to play.

Doesn't matter that business leaders themselves are talking of affirmative action.
Trust Messrs Manmohan Singh to play a political stunt and the timing is so right... near assembly elections.

All that the inept government has provided the private sector is are faulty and obsolete legislations, crumbling infrassturcture and a plethora of taxes jacked up every year for the slightest excuse.... And now they want the private sector to subsidize their political aspirations as well.

And Mr. Ram Vilas Paswan the messiah of Dalits who spends lakhs and lakhs of ruppees underwritten by a PSU for his Daughters wedding.
That could have fed a lot of poor people you know. Tsk Tsk... But you wouldn't be able to identify which of those poor people was dalit... I understand... So much pressure on you.

If upa remains in power expect step 4 and step 5 by 2010

Step 4. ---- 50% of a company's share capital reserved for subscription only by obc, sc and st... (and god bless the ipo's which shall be cancelled)

Step 5. ------ 40% of all international flights reserved for minorities, sc,sts and obcs.

Kudos .... Keep it up guys..... After all who will ruin and cause another partition in India if not you !

Traders Strike against a Despotic Government - Why Government does not want to help traders?

Delhi traders were up in arms from Oct 30 to Nov 1 against the "nikammi" government of India and of Delhi. While there was a good show of force, the sad part is that Delhi lost 700 Crore indirectly, most small jobbers may have lost 3 days salary and public services lost between 50 lakhs to 1 crore due to damages.

The sympathy with traders has see-sawed a bit as the common man was caught in 3 hours long traffic jams but no one was sympathetic with the government.

It amazes me how blinded can a given government be and how hypocritical to the needs of the common man. Lest some of you feel i am BJP activist i will explain the analysis which most of us know but sometimes we forget the significance of .

1. Government : Our hands are tied behind our back ! We have tried it all. Plus, what the supreme court has ruled is actually right in a way
Ans: Weren't your damn hands tied behind your back when you bulldozed the office of profit bill through and gave relief "in retrospect" i.e people who have been breaking law for 50 years by not following office of profit were given relief. And the main beneficiary were UPA leaders and ofcourse victims were people like Jaya Bacchhan . Not to mention the fact that the supreme court found this irregular and the president returned the bill once but had to forgo objections after being forced by zealots and obsequious MPs . Ofcourse this was an important problem like maintain the decorative designation for great Sonia JI and other illustrious MP, not a small matter like the employment and welfare of 5-10 lakh small traders in Delhi who are already reeling under a 3 times price rise since UPA governments "kalyug" raj.
Bottom line - where it benefits us we will challenge even god, what's supreme court or president .

2. Government : We have the traders welfare in mind. Why would we intentionally try and distance them.
Ans. Bullshit of the nth degree. Everyone knows that there is a snowflakes hope in hell that any trader or educated businessperson in Delhi will vote for UPA or Dikshit for next 10 years , or perhaps more. They know that there is no vote bank there. ITs a lost case, and can't be won. So they say, why bother. Things for us couldn't possibly get worse from this section. so let us concentrate on other traditional votebanks : the sc's , st's and muslims. Ofcourse the fools haven't thought through where so many young people of the so called "deprived community" are gaining their employment from.

3. Government: master plan, was delayed by BJP and we need another zillion years to prepare it
Ans: The f******* masterplan is something you could have launched ages ago. This according to BJP and has been verified as having been ready in 2002 itself. The new changes were made and have been in making. Whereas bollywood is producing complete movies in mere 4 months , these guys take 4 years to produce a single document, which when u look at its language , you will need to call Latin experts to understand.

Should 10 , Janpath / Akbar Road hq of UPA be sealed as well under commercilazation laws

The Supreme court has issued orders regarding commercialization and the law of the land is (read as SHOULD BE) equal for everyone. Since the UPA has so steafastly talked of not interfering with Supreme court judgement (Although it has tried to circumvent it by shabby notifications) , perhaps it is time that it tasted its own medicine. By all means , it should be assessed if 10 Janpath is acting as a place where commercial activity is taking place and it does serve as a place where a lot of CWC meetings take place. There is obviously nothing residential about these meetings , It is to do with the "profession" of the people involved and hence is arguably commercial not to mention the headache of parking and traffic diversion it would case.. and hence let the traders association of delhi having posters of Gandhiji affixed in front of them with senior MCD officials march there and ask for VOLUNTARY SEALING OF 10 JANPATH AS AN EXAMPLE SET BY UPA GOVERNMENT....

Lets see that happens and then lets see if Akbar road is notified or not or is a residential area... and if so let us see if the CWC headquarters can also be sealed.
After that we will seal the other UPA political offices which operate out of residential areas.

I am sure we will have these lazy netas scampering for a special session to avoid their offices from being sealed.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for sympathetic consideration of Mohammad Afzal's mercy petition.

Afzal has been convicted in the 2001 Parliament attack case and is to be hanged on October 20.

Parties fear that if Afzal is hanged, it will create civil disorder in the Kashmir valley.

A Slap on Indias face by Musharraf and the story of our weak PM.Have you seen dances with the wolves ? Thats apparently what our PM proposed to MushBush at Havana. And mere week before Mush Says India is responsible for Kargil as well as stealing nuclear secrets from Pakistan.If ever there was a loud slap by a world leader to another, this one would be the loudest. But it does not bother our honorable PM of course. When its Pakistan, we are used to it.Lateral thinking stretched beyond a point deserves mental asylum . A proposal to work with Pakistan and its intellegence wing to share intellegence on terrorist activities. Jesus! You are not US or Israel. You really think Pakistan will give a damn about this intellegence sharing. It will use your own intellegence against you and will give a clean chit to its home grown terrorist when the next bombing in India happens as it is bound to.Why dont other political parties wake up and stop the weak leadership of this country from selling the country down the river , as it has done in past.

We the people - Reserve a seat in Hell as well ?

What is happening in India these days. Who calls us the world's largest democracy ? We are no longer that . We are a country governed by people who make laws for their convenience, break them at will and blacklist media , people and rights.

Students are water cannoned so that they should'nt disturb the beauty sleep of the VIPS or cause problem to their traffic. They are beaten and arrested. Blog sites are blacked out and there is a bill to reign in the media.

The RTI bill has narrowly escaped the ranting and raving disallowing the government the absolute right to run its own fiefdom. But for how long !

China had 1 Tinamen square which put it in infamy for so long , but in India under this autocratic government and political system is surely and slowly and systematically culling and mowing down rights of the general public.

Whether it is ban on "so called adult entertainment" , ban on so called "objectionable sites" , the way the reservation bill is tabled., the way the office of profit bill was bulldozed through , we are increasingly under the mercy of a self proclaimed dynasty. I dont mind that at all as long as the dynasty is made of sensible people and not fools and bootleggers.

Please look at the ads for moving to Canada, UK , US, or even Timbucktoo... you may be in the danger of your life but atleast you wont be ruled by people who care for nought but filling their coffers and that there hands should not get dirty handling petitions by innocent students.

Whats it with us Delhi wallahs ? Every %!### person seems to be chewing tobbacoo or pan or what $^$^#$#$$ not and spitting it all over the place. They do it with such dexterity and frequency you marvel at the indian engineering in spitting.
They spit from buses , from cars, in buildings , especially PSU and gov. buildings . They narrow pavement (if any ) are lined with phalgm, spit , splume and what not. I am a man of poor means these days, lost a bit on my entrepreneurial stint and have to use buses.
I dont mind buses, i am man with simple tastes and respect for basic necessities in life BUT each day there are 4 or 5 times when my BP pushes 20-30 points of the scale to see my fellow man spittting with such impugnity.
Please Delhi, great cities are not build on infrastructure alone, they are build on concern and common decency. Spit only if you have to, and try not to chew tobbacco or pan at every road corners. Delhi and Central Government should be sued

Whats it to our Netas and the MCD eh ? Someone had all his fixtures splattered across his verandah.. then few days later they , already, call in for new fixtures and repair your walls , we will let you sweat for another year.
Then surprise surprise , their vigilante tactics are not taken kindly by the honble supreme court and our friend has now 1 month to remove the last tubelight from his office or showroom or see it battered by ugly MCD roadrollers.
True these capatilists are too blame, too much greed and not any care for resident wallahs. But multiply this blame by 10 to the power 5 for union government and by 10 to the power 8 for MCD....I dont see anyone being suspended , i dont see the government being cuffed short of the every weekly embarassment it faces these days which we are learning to live with like a weekly saas bahu spat.For all those who have a knack of filing seriou PILS, isnt this a good case. Who will pay for the business relocation and discontinuity of business due to the new orders given rescinding an earlier law.Why was the law passed in first place ?Didnt they know it was illegal ?If they were so confident why are they being so sheepish now ?Ofcourse now they have to have to honour the court... for this is what the nth time they have been embarrassed on the issue.
Well, it is the way it is , us Indians do need to pay for the follies of our masters and give our lagaan,. first it was the British and now it is the UPA government.

I am posting some old posts - earlier posted in Sulekha and now here as i am collating the whole thing.

Another Civil Disobedience movement needed to curb Reservations on May 18 2006 11:16AM

I am surprised at what is happening in India today. We are not far of from our own Tinamen square if this UPA government is allowed to function like this. With nearly 50 years of reservations , rather than bringing out a game plan for getting better results and ultimately moving to an ideal system , votes now are the key. Even opposition parties like BJP are being mute spectators. My deepest respects to the medicos on hunger strike who are fighting this evil in society which is slowly dividing india.
The Gandhi -Nehru dynasty has only bought problems to india and its list of accomplishment (read blunders is historic) . Starting from Kashmiri Hindu massacres to NAM movement, to Shimla accord to a 'soft state policy' to socialistic system (which was pseudo socialistic) , support for reservation system is another glaring example.
This is not even an optimal solution, forget ideal. And increasing seats is just sweeping the problem under the carpet. Instead of going for implementing and encouraging affirmative action which would bind the society the government which seems to be full of senile or illetrate people is going for this step.
I Will not go in to details because the blogs and posts of the world already full of why reservation should not be there and slowly eradicated altogether, rather would offer some humble suggestions to those protesting.

a) Launch a case with Human Rights commissions and international monitoring agencies against Mahrashtra police brutality
b) Select a forum of senior people composed of student leaders, industry leaders, scientists, economists and challenge the prime minister to a debate .Challenege, not request otherwise he will be content with holding and being a mute spectator in various CWC meetings.
c) Announce a Civil Disobedience movement intiially by gathering support from private industry (which will lose competitiveness in case of reservations - BECAUSE MERIT WILL NO LONGER BE A CRITERIA). Involve IITians, Business Management professionals, professionals in banking, medical stream, aviation, technology sector and hold a nationwide halting of all work until government stops its high handed tactics and comes forward for talks.
d) Start and organization which will actively place meritorious people out of the hellish society which will form... a kind of overseas placement forum.... and threaten increase in brain drain.
e) Take signatures for NOT VOTING for UPA in next term on the web... I am sure there will be hell lot of them.

WHY I AM AGAINST RESERVATIONS - SIMPLE - Merit is everything, making it equal for everyone to garner or gain skills which transform into merit is the only solution .... NOT reserving something for someone without him /her having requisite merit.
